Don’t be surprised at the damage caused by tree roots
July 21, 2017
Depending on the species, most trees have an extensive spread of roots.
It’s what they use for nourishment and stability, so as the tree grows then the spread of the roots will grow, too.
A mature tree can have roots spreading far beyond the canopy – often to a distance that’s equal to half the height of the tree. Or even more.
Problems start when the roots grow thicker and longer. They can lift paths, dislodge walls, undermine foundations, and crack or block drainage pipes.
